The Art of the Chalk
The two great loves of my life are my daughter and chalk. A Utah native, I have been a lifelong artist working across many mediums including colored pencil, acrylic, henna, stained glass, and fiber arts (crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting).
I earned a BA in Fine Arts from Utah State University and discovered my love for chalk art in 2017 after attending a local festival.
Since then, I have been an active member of the local chalk community and recently have participated more on the national scene. I love the temporary nature of chalk, and the meditative and performance aspect of this art form. I love the community, and the many friendships it’s brought into my life.
Over the years, I have created both solo and collaborative pieces with friends and family. I have even started a mentorship program, teaching others who are interested in learning how to advance their skill with chalk and become more involved in the community.
I am inspired by images that are “colorful and shiny,” as well as taking a closer look at objects, animals and faces. I excel at the use of vivid colors, strong contrasts, and detailed highlights and reflections.
By day, I work as a Financial Systems Analyst for ERM, Inc., a global environmental consulting firm, supported by a Master’s degree in Accounting and Management.
I have traveled to all 50 states, and 26 countries across six continents, and when I’m not chalking, I also teach ballroom and social dance. In 2023, I became a first-time mom. My daughter is already in love with chalk!
